Digital Literacy Trainings at the Door Step

By Usha Bhaskar | Program Lead

Activities Conduted During Last Quarter :

During the summer vacation the Foundation conducted special digital literacy trainings to the children in Kunnapattu village situated in Kanchipuram district Tamilnadu. The children from the nearby community used to assemble in one of the house of the child to attend the trainings  . The children were initially trained on basics like how to handle a tablet, laptop etc then with interesting web 2.0 tools. The curriculum also helped the children understand the importance of values in our life. Post trainings the students prepared a “value tree” and aligned it with their goal.

Kunnapattu is extremely backward village from Tamilnadu state . The  children had to travel long distances to for their schoolings.

Since the village is in a remote year and far away from the technology, the children from the school had a practise of going to their schools to check their results every year. But after attending the digital literacy trainings by the Foundation ,  for the first time they had borrowed a cell phone from the village head and checked the results of all the children in the village.

The village heads and the parents of the children were very excited and had requested the resource person to provide training even for the parents. The initiative was extremely appreciated and welcomed by everyone in the village as it helped them to move a step higher.

The distribution of stationeries was also continued in this phase too so as to motivate the students and parents about the importance of education. It was extremely a cool summer.
