Project Report | Apr 20, 2017
Stationary Donation and Digital Literacy Trainings

By Usha Bhaskar | Partner

Activities Taken-up during the Last Quarter

This quarter focused on the community surrounding Kanchipuram district is surrounded by unskilled /semi-skilled population. Majority are from economically weaker sections of the society and to meet their basic needs, children drop out of school and are engaged in child labour.  80% of the children work in unorganized sector. Many children enrolled in schools were irregular as they were enrolled for minimal daily wages works.

The aim to bridge the gap in education inequity and increase awareness of the rights enshrined in the constitution. Such underprivileged children in and around Kanchipuram districts of Tamil Nadu were motivated by contributing stationery’s like note books, pencils, erasers, rulers, pens, sketches, crayons, water colours, uniforms, school bags, geometry boxes and so on. Students were oriented not only on the importance of education but the fun they can have at schools other than studies.

Students were taught to read, write, more of fun activities like just a minute sessions, story sessions, origami, painting, learning aids etc. Technology sessions were also organised for the children from the community in the nearby schools. Empowering children with technology is like, giving them wings to fly in the current fast moving global scenario. There is always a need to reach out to the students from rural areas that are deprived from learning the technology. The foundation encourages and privileged to provide “Digital Literacy” to such deprived children in rural places of Kanchipuram Districts.
