Dear Friends and Supporters,
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! We are so grateful for your continued support throughout this past year. 2014 was an exciting year for us as it was our first full year on Global Giving! As many of you know, we participated in the Open Challenge in 2013 and, directly due to your support, raised enough funds to earn a permanent spot here on Global Giving for the cervical cancer program. In total we have now raised $7,313.76 to fund the first cervical cancer screening and treatment program in the Upper West Region! This program is so important for the women in the Upper West Region because although cervical cancer is the most common cancer among women in Ghana and affects thousands each year, the women of the Upper West Region currently have little to no access to cervical care. They currently have to travel across the country to receive treatment for cervical cancer and receive very little preventative screening. However, the hospitals in the Upper West lack the funds to instill this program on their own. By providing the supplies needed for both screening and treatment of cervical cancer, you are helping us reduce the cost burden and enabling the establishment of this program.
At the time of our last update, we had worked with Dr. Duodu and Dr. Fofie to decide which supplies (1 diathermy machine, 1 cryotherapy set, 2 biopsy forceps, 10 tenaculums, 25 speculums and 10 sponge forceps) to purchase for the first shipment to Wa. Our In Country Director and Board Member are currently working with the Ministry of Health to ensure that the supplies can be cleared promptly on arrival and that there will be no delay in customs. In the meantime, we are still in regualr communication with Dr. Duodu, and he is signing an agreement to provide up-to-date information and pictures of the supplies when they arrive. We look forward to finalzing our shipments and getting to tell Dr. Duodu the supplies are on the way in the New Year!
We also wanted to let you all know of a great opportunity Global Giving is offering this holiday season. If you're still looking for gift ideas for loved ones, you can always consider a donation to the cervical cancer program in their honor by visiting http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/prevent-cancer-for-women-in-ghana/. And, when you sign up for a new monthly recurring donation between now and December 31st, a generous anonymous donor will match your initial gift at 100%! If you donate in honor of someone or as a gift, a personalized card will be sent to your loved one, notiftying them of the donation. Giving a gift that helps save the lives of women in Ghana may be the perfect gift for your loved ones! Thank you again for all of your support over this past year, and we look forward to many exciting updates in 2015! Happy Holidays!
