Purchasing the First Equipment for the Cervical Cancer Program!
By Anna LeViere - Project Leader, Executive Director MedPLUS Connect
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We have exciting news to share with you! At the time of our last report we had just gotten news that the Wa Regional Hospital had hired a new physician while Dr. Fofie continues to recover. At that point we were still trying to get in touch with Dr. Duodu, the new physician to discuss the cervical cancer program with him. We are happy to report that Dr. Duodu is now fully established at the Wa Regional Hospital and strongly supports the establshment of the first cervical cancer screening and treatment program in the Upper West Region.
In our first conversations with Dr. Duodu, he told us that the cervical cancer program "is a welcome idea which we need to support" and expressed his commitment to working with both MedPLUS Connect and Dr. Fofie in any way he can, stating "I am ready to do everything to make the program succeed." We are so grateful to have Dr. Duodu's full support while Dr. Fofie steadliy recovers and are so excited to begin purchasing the first set of equipment and supplies to establish the program! In conversations with both Dr. Duodu and Dr. Fofie, we have decided to purchase 1 diathermy machine, 1 cryotherapy set, and 2 biopsy forceps, in addition to 10 tenaculums, 25 speculums and 10 sponge forceps. The diathermy machine and cyotherapy set are the most expensive pieces of equipment for the program but also the most needed so we are grateful that we are able to provide 1 of each in this first set of equipment. We have also begun talking with Dr. Duodu about the best ways we can help support the training of the nurses who will begin implementing the cervical cancer screening once the equipment arrives. Once the items arrive in Wa, Ghana we will be sure to ask Dr. Duodu for pictures! We will keep you all updated as the program continues to steadily progress. Thank you again for all of your support- we would not be able to purchase these highly needed pieces of equipment without you!
We also wanted to remind everyone that the next Global Giving Matching Day (the last one of the year) is coming up on October 15th! Global Giving is offering a 30% match on all donations up to $1,000 per donor per project, while funds remain. There is $75,000 available in matching and matching begins at 9:00 am EDT and lasts until funds run out or 11:59 pm EDT so its best to give early! This is the perfect opportunity to see your donation make a larger impact and enables us to purchase a second set of supplies for the cervical cancer program. Thank you for your patience and continued support of this important and much needed program! As always we are open to comments, questions, or suggestions and you can reach me directly at email@example.com.
