With the admission of our new children, the building of a new preschool is even more critical. Many of the children have only gone to school sporadically, and some not at all. Attending school was a luxury beyond their reach; even the cost of a uniform at $10 is not available to a child who is tending livestock and digging through trash bins to buy or find a scrap of food.
Nearly all of the seventeen need remedial help, and some do not even speak English. Trying to teach so many different levels of need in one large room does not their needs adequately. When it's meal time, all the materials have to be picked up and stored until after lunch is finished. Having classrooms of their own will allow the teachers to address the various needs of the children, meeting them at their level.
It is essential for the orphans to succeed in pre-primary to lay the groundwork for attending the Hope School Academy. Building an education is like contructing a building; there needs to be a strong foundation for lasting success.
