Every summer is different. Some people have the opportunity to thrive and others are left to survive. That's why we call on you to help us reshape the story of summer for thousands of men, women and children living outside of Moria camp. Spare a little of your summer cash to help us protect the people who are set to face the hot Aegean sun in an overcrowded refugee camp. Help us protect children against sunstroke, families against dehydration and a community against burnt and bitten skin.
For the thousands of vulnerable people living in and around camps on the Greek islands, SUMMER is a season of survival. Long 40 degree days in the hot Aegean sun. Tossing and turning at night in an overheating tent. Fears of dehydration due to limited access to water. And burnt and bitten skin as sunscreen and mosquito repellent is hard to come by.
That's why we introduced SUMMERISATION, the act or process that helps to SAFEGUARD a person or community against harsh summer conditions by providing them with PROTECTIVE GOODS. This summer, we want to ensure the SAFETY and WELLBEING of 2,000 unequipped men, women and children living in the Olive Groves outside of Moria. We provide them with water bottles and sun screen and install fans and mosquito nets in the tents. We also create shaded areas for protection.
The harsh conditions in an overcrowded refugee camp affect the residents health and well-being. The summer heat not only increases health risks (sunburn, dehydration, lack of sleep) but also adds to stress, unrest and tensions between people. Preparing 2,000 men, women and children with basic necessities against the summer heat adds to their individual health and well-being as well as the well-being and safety of the community as a whole.
