Empower 500 Haitian Youth with Education and Sport project was launched in March 2019 to help our organization raise funds for a June 2019 Education and Basketball program in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. We are very excited about the camp in a couple of weeks and know that hundreds of lives will be positively impacted due to the generosity of our donors. PowerForward has been working with dozens of organizers both in the US and on the ground to finalize the camp location, food donations, sports equipment, and school supplies. We couldn’t run these programs without the help of our partners and volunteers. We look forward to sharing photos and stories from the summer program in our next GlobalGiving report.
We are also excited to launch a new initiative this summer - PowerForward Ambassadors. These volunteers and donors will travel with our organization and get a behind-the-scenes look at our programs. Ambassadors will play a vital role in coaching the youth, distributing food and school materials, and providing hope to the Haitian community. For many of our Ambassadors, this will be the first time they visit Haiti - a country we know will make a lasting impression on their hearts.
Working with Haitian youth through education and sport has long-term impact and ripple effects for the participants, their families, and our country. We celebrated a number of momentous PowerForward high school and college graduations this year. Djery B. graduated from Vanderbilt University and is currently pursuing his Master’s at UMass-Amherst. Samuel D., Paul V. and Antoine J. all graduated from Union University with a degrees in Marketing and Sports Management. Stanley J. graduated from Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. We are extremely proud of all of our PowerForward Scholars, our recent graduates and the dozens of others enrolled in top institutions across the US. The future is bright for all of our Scholars!
