I am so glad to share the second progress report about our poultry project to which you are a part of. How fast time flies...!!!
POULTRY HEALTH
We recently had an outbreak of New Castle Disease (NCD) in our community and many free range chicken succumbed to the disease. We have not been affected as much because we had earlier vaccinated against the disease as per the recommended vaccination schedule. Other bacterial diseases have been traced and treated by our routine visiting Vet.
FENCE NEEDED
It has been realized that it is so prudent to fence off the project site to do away with free range poultry and animals from neighbors to completely combat future spread of bacterial and viral diseases which can be prevented. A fence made wire mesh with metallic poles ha been budgeted to cost $3,500. Kindly follow our project link on GlobalGiving to donate. FEEDS
Due to unbudgetd expenses like taxes and commissions, we ran out of poultry feeds for the last 2 months before the birds start laying eggs to become self sustainig. This has negatively affected us by brining in a deficit of close to $1,300
TIME TO LAY EGGS....!!!
Our chicken are 4 months old and really looking great. It is nearly time to start laying eggs. In a few weeks they must start laying eggs. Everybody at Kingsland is so excited about this development. I can't wait to share the news...!!!
DAVID AND HIS DREAM...!!
David Muhumuza is one of the little boys at the Kingsland orphanage. His dream is to become a farmer. After watching our chicks grow, he became anxious and embarked on constructing his own house with his young friend, Derek to get 1 hen from our farm to begin his own project. He said, "I want a hen and a Rabbit to begin my farm" He has great passion for Rabbits! What a dream....!!!
