GETTING STARTED WITH DAY OLD CHICKS
It was such bright new day on May, 07th, 2018 when our day old chicks were delivered at our primises. It was such a great joy seeing materially a project that had begun on paper in the March GlobalGiving accelerator!!
A total of 1,200 were delivered on that day. 5 little chicks were too tired and could not make it to the next day despite the fact that we tried all we could to save them. The first 1 month is quite demanding as we have to provide warmth from charcoal stoves balanced with fresh air.
FIRST AND SECOND WEEK
Like I said, during the very first 2 weeks, many exercises are carried out to give the chicks a firm start and a good life. Routine vaccines are given, these are introduced through the eye by drops. Kids at the orphanage wanted so much to see the chicks but no visitor was allowed until they become 1 month old. Little chicks are so susceptible to diseases. During the first month, we have lost a total of 32 chicks during the first month.
THIRD AND FOURTH WEEK
Vaccination continues through the third and fourth weeks but warmth is much needed during the night as chicks begin developing mature feathers. Kids now can have a look at their project and they are so, so excited to see them begin to fly a little bit in the chicken coupe.
DEBORAH, A SPECIAL GIRL!
Deborah is 6 years old and she is in Primary 2. She was overjoyed to see the chicks, she wanted to feed each of them! What was so amazing and special of is that she talked to the attendat and was asking for their names (chicks). She was answered that they don't have names. She never wanted to get back to class but to give them names (I wonder where the little girl c'd get 1168 names) The attendant said that she looked at them intently and exclaimed...."but they all look alike!!" She was completely confused.
THANK YOU......
I will never say "thank you" enough to whoever gave a penny to make this project a reality, you would have so many other great avenues to spend your hardly earned money BUT you chose to support us. I am sure this project will bring lasting smiles on the faces of so many kids. Many of you who gave have not met me before except 4 great friends BUT the LOrd knows who you are...!!!
