My name is Haoua. I am a second year midwifery student at the National School for Public Health in Ouahigouya (northern Burkina Faso). I am 24 years old and grew up in a village close to Ouahigouya.
After completing secondary school in 2019, and very long before then, I dreamed of becoming a midwife in order to help save the lives of women and children. I had no money to support me in this training. Since the death of both of my parents, it has been my cousins who have paid for my (earlier) education. I heard on the radio that Global NEEED Burkina was offering scholarships for professional training thanks to the support of its partners Friends of Burkina Faso and GlobalGiving. I applied for a scholarship and received one. I thank God. My scholarship pays my school fees and gives me a small amount of money for my personal needs.
Much of this second year of training is devoted to practical training: rotations in community health centers and at the regional hospital. I am fulfilling my dream!
From the bottom of my heart, I thank Global NEEED Burkina and its partners for helping the most needy young women like me to pursue training that will help us to contribute productively to the health and welfare of our communities.
