On this day of generous giving, please help a bright young village woman from a subsistence farming family in Burkina Faso to become a primary school teacher. This year, over 200 young women in northern Burkina Faso applied for scholarships to enable them to enroll in primary school teaching training. Because they come from very poor families, their only hope of receiving postsecondary training is dependent upon receiving a scholarship to do so. The cost of their two-year teacher training is $1,540, including school fees, materials and living expenses.
The accompanying photo is of the 15 young women that Friends of Burkina Faso was able to provide scholarships to this year, in collaboration with Association NEEED in Burkina.
Of the 120 young women whose scholarships we (Friends of Burkina Faso) have supported in the past nine years, 118 have either graduated and are working or are currently in training: 98% success by highly motivated and qualified young women. Your donation is an investment in the future of young rural women in Burkina Faso. Your donation will make a profound difference in a young village woman’s life.
On behalf of these young women, our sincere gratitude and our very best wishes to you this holiday season.
