Did you know that over the past three years, our GlobalGiving partners have generously supported scholarships to 43 young village women for primary school teacher training in northern Burkina Faso? And that 26 scholarships were distributed in this school year alone, largely because of your generous support to a Youth Spark bonus day earlier this year?
Over the past three years, the Postsecondary Education for Girls Project – run by Friends of Burkina Faso’s local partner, Association NEEED – has benefitted from the GlobalGiving Youth Spark campaign, a donation-matching campaign supported by Microsoft on a few select days each year.
Today, Wednesday, October 7, Microsoft’s Youth Spark campaign will hold its last matching campaign with GlobalGiving.
The campaign will run from 12 noon until midnight EDT and $75,000 in matching funds are available. Donations of up to $1,000 per donor will be matched on a pro-rated basis. Matching funds will be available throughout the entire 12 hours of the campaign – so don’t fret if you cannot donate in the first 15 minutes of the campaign. You have a full 12 hours to make an impactful multiplying investment.
You should also know that Association NEEED is making a final selection of students for this school year which begins October 12. Within the next month, we will begin sharing photos and stories of these future primary school teachers whose scholarships you, our GlobalGiving partners, have so generously provided. We can’t wait and we hope you can’t either!
But for now, we ask for your continued support to bring the reality of education to more young qualified women in northern Burkina Faso. Even though we’ve been able to greatly increase the number of women who have the chance to become teachers for tomorrow’s rural youth in Burkina, the wait list is still longer than our funds allow. We want to do more but we can only do it with your support.
Wednesday, October 7 (that’s today, noon till midnight EDT), please make a generous donation to this project. These well-selected teacher training candidates have excellent academic backgrounds and great enthusiasm for becoming educators of the youth in Burkina. They only need financial support to reach their goals – and today during this matching campaign, your financial support can go even further than it normally would. A win-win for all.

If you know of anyone else who would be interested in supporting girls’ education in Burkina, please let them know of this opportunity.
Thanks for helping us achieve a multiplier effect for this important work.
