Happy New Year!
We are so super excited for 2024 as we contine to take steps forward in our ever-evolving Building Acquisition & Housing Project!
Fair Haven is grateful to report that we have secured two seperate grants to fund the lions share of the project! Super exciting but grants take time to execute! We are working with HUD and have submitted all of the necessary documentation needed to access the first of our grant dollars.
In our last report, we outlined the details of needing a Phase I site assessment. What we have learned about this process, we have to look back in order to move forward! We spent weeks digging through documents only to reveal that our little home has been home to many over the years! From 1940-1966, Oak Grove Campground and Service Station (and the name changed over the years) provided temporary lodging (cabins) to campers. This detail warms our hearts to know that our project brings the property back to it's roots-Temporaty lodging! It's like it was meant to be!
However, the "service station" part took us all by surprise! Digging further, we unearthed that a small service station did indeed sit on the corner of the lot. We found all the old documentation from February 2 and April 24, 1996 that the underground tanks were removed and the ground was tested and was fine.
To be sure, we decided to have a Phase II site assessment completed on November 29, 2023. This included soil boring in the area that the service station once existed. We are pleased to report that the the results concluded that the ground was free of any contaminants and gives us the green light we need to move the project forward.
We have submitted all the documentation to HUD and we are currently waiting for the first grant to move into execution. This will allow for us to acquire the property and begin to move forward with minor renovations within the existing building. These renovations include: replacing original flooring on the second floor, paint & upgrades in the restrooms. So much to do in 2024!
Take a look at our 2023 Impact Report. We ended 2023 as the largest service year of our history! Fair Haven served 498 survivors (37 identified Human Trafficking survivors).
Also, save the date-Friday, April 5, 2024 and plan to attend our Masquerade Gala! This event supports the current work we are doing and the building project. We hope to see you there!
Thank you for your continued support of our grass-roots for-purpose organization! Your support makes all of this possible!
