On May 3rd, 2017, the American Diabetes Association celebrated Get Fit Don’t Sit Day. Our annual celebration might be over, but it’s never too late to start taking small steps towards a healthier life!
You may have always known that exercise is good for you, but it’s likely you didn’t know until recently that too much sitting is actually harmful for your health and increases the risk of health complications. The American Diabetes Association recommends breaking up sitting time with three or more minutes of light physical activity—such as walking, leg extensions or overhead arm stretches—every 30 minutes.
Need inspiration on how to bring this to your organization? Download the Get Fit Don’t Sit Day e-toolkit to access:
A great way to get moving during the day is to start training for Tour de Cure – it’s coming up faster than you may think! Consider riding your bike to work once a week or taking a 30-minute walk during your lunch or break. Getting active with a goal of riding or walking at Tour de Cure is a great way to improve your health while helping us find a cure for diabetes!
Ready to ride or walk for diabetes? Registration is still open for Tour de Cure! Visit www.diabetes.org/tourpdx to learn more and register today.
