More than 1,100 cyclists gathered at Hillsboro Stadium on Saturday, July 28, and together will help raise nearly $400,000 for diabetes education, research and advocacy in the annual Tour de Cure event.

More than 340,000 people live with diabetes in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

“With diabetes growing at near-epidemic proportions, the need for funds and awareness has never been so great," said Andrea Bruno, executive director of the American Diabetes Association of Oregon, Southwest Washington and Southern Idaho.

Participants could choose from 5 routes, ranging from 5-100 miles. Upon completion of their ride, cyclists enjoyed lunch, free massages, live music, water slides and vendor booths.

Nearly 200 Red Riders (people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes) participated in the event and lead the rest of the riders out of the stadium each hour.

Money raised at Tour de Cure funds diabetes research, advocacy and education.
