For peace in the Tarahumara region

By Fundacion San Ignacio de Loyola.

Thanks to the invaluable support we have received, we have made significant progress in the Sierra Tarahumara, transforming their lives, through community development, dialogue building and culture for peace, as well as social actions.

Based on their concerns and needs, we have given priority attention to the mental health crisis facing the region, characterised by high rates of substance abuse and violence. We have incorporated into this task the work of two psychologists who have supported them in the municipalities of Baborigame and Guachochi, providing specialised attention to young people and adults, reinforcing prevention actions.

In support of the previous action, in the area of education , two trainings have been carried out for youth and family promoters for the prevention of psychosocial risks in children and adolescents, in order to have people from the community itself who can carry out these actions. Similarly, local meetings of the teams have been held to recover and exchange experiences among the promoters, generating collaboration networks.

In addition to the above, actions that promote peace, which address the promotion of the culture of peace, violence prevention, conflict mediation and community participation. Through: days of memory and peace, neighbourhood circles, conversations for peace and community, making a video compilation, which have allowed us to strengthen community ties, promote reconciliation and build a healthier and more social equitable.

Our commitment is to continue working to expand our coverage and consolidate our achievements. We aspire to build more resilient and just communities in the Sierra Tarahumara, so we hope to continue to count on your support so that these types of actions multiply.
