There are records from 1989 with the following diagnosis of the people of the Tarahumara region: "a disunited people, living in a situation of cultural shock, of a dichotomy between faith and life, with strong vices and injustices: drug trafficking, alcoholism, lack of sources of work , Loss of identity".
Different activities have been carried out since 1990 to promote the recovery of the language and it has been seen that it has a positive impact on the union and identity of the communities.
The population of five years or older speaking an indigenous language has seen a continuous increase thanks to the activities that are carried out as a recovery of traditions through music, dances, rites and traditions.
With great sadness, it was discovered in 2002 and 2013 that other segregation problems have worsened, favored by government programs that adapt more easily to mestizo peoples who have benefited more widely while indigenous areas have been affected by projects that have divided communities and overexploited their forests.
To this we add the increase in poverty, violence and lack of guardians and promoters such as Fr. Javier Camos and Fr. Joaquín Mora.
Thanks to your donation we are working every day in cultural centers, promoting cultural practices such as festivals, music, language, games, songs and dances where symbols that give a sense of identity are reinforced.
Traditional Rarámuris values are recovered, such as the self-consumption economy over the consumerist and welfare economy; shared assets instead of the accumulation of assets; group solidarity in the face of competition without measure; the sense of community as opposed to individualism; the collective sense and celebration of work, the use of the native language, the value of the countryside and its culture.
Your support means the possibility of creating conditions for the reconstruction of the social network. However, help is still necessary to promote the objectives, create spaces, disseminate the activities in the mountains, generate quality and dignified spaces. Please do not stop supporting this project to continue, spreading or donating, the way to get involved is very valuable. Thank you so much.
