Virtual POP-UP with children in China and Japan
Virtual POP-UP with children in China and Japan

Hello friends,

We’re very excited to share new leadership for the POP-UP Supermentor team. Ayaka Mawakrida and Antonella Malaga are experienced facilitators who have agreed to head up the next level of SuperMentor projects for POP- UP Festivals. They will be focused in increasing engagements and activating experienced hosts as well as working with Six Seconds to more broadly expand the program to wider audiences this year.

One of the initiatives is to create themed POP-UP Festival content areas to support the annual themes of Six Seconds. The first theme they will create is “Optimism” so that hosts can hold events to develop the skills of optimism for children and families.

If you have more theme ideas you’d like to see created please reach out to us and let us know what would be helpful to your network..

Thank you for being a part of our POP-UP community and helping us increase children’s wellbeing around the world.

Warmly,
Patty Freedman

Hello friends,

It's almost time for another year of our big POP-UP festival!

We’re very excited to share that we just finished ‘Content Creation Camp’ with our Super Mentors. This means we will have fresh popup content by the end of the year - just in time for the World’s Children Day in November. Super Mentors are those who have hosted POP-UP Festival and mentor new hosts. This group is expert in conducting POP-UP and has first hand experience of hosting events across the world. We’re so grateful for their enthusiasm in putting together new content and a special shout out to Paige Dest who coordinates the Super Mentor program.

These new activities are in line with our goal of creating free, playful, meaningful activities to help kids grow their emotional intelligence and take action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are currently  in the process of play-testing the activities. Some of the ideas included themes of Inclusion, Friendship, Movement and Joy.. We can’t wait to share these activities with our POP-UP community soon!

We’re excited for another season of the POP-UP Festival for World Children’s Day on Nov 20. We hope you will join the celebration this year.

Thank you for being a part of our POP-UP community and helping us increase children’s wellbeing around the world.

Warmly,
Patty Freedman

Hello friends,

We wanted to send you an update and share all the news about our new initiative– 2022 Cohort of Wellbeing Advocates.

The Six Seconds Wellbeing Advocates Program is a generative, fast-paced immersion supporting emerging wellbeing advocates to develop their leadership abilities, expand their emotional intelligence, and practice a community-oriented design process for effective interventions.  Interns are individuals ages 18+ from a diverse set of backgrounds with interest in making positive change in the wellbeing of their communities, and achieving personal growth.

Over the course of the program, these individuals will collaborate in small groups to develop interventions aimed to increase wellbeing. Interns will be encouraged to focus their projects on communities or issues that are salient to them. Projects can include, and are certainly not limited to: a social media campaign, short film, app, activity, zine, lesson plan, product, or event.

Here’s some topics the team have identified:

  • “I'm very interested in working with young adolescents in underrepresented communities in discussing the prevalence of mental disorders that are often ignored in these communities”

  • “I am particularly interested in learning more about how the pandemic has affected the mental health of young people.”

  • “I’m interested in helping to end the stigma surrounding mental illness/mental health, especially in minority communities. As someone who has a mental illness and is a part of the Black community, I’m very passionate about this issue. Also, I’m passionate about promoting mindfulness as it’s a tool I use to help my own well-being.”

  • “College students that are dealing with the stresses that a "hyper-connected world" can bring, because this is something that had a big impact on my mental health in college and I want to be able to help others that have the same struggles.”

This project is possible thanks to you. As we celebrate our 25th year bringing emotional intelligence resources to people globally, we are truly grateful for your continous support in helping raise awareness for mental health and emotional wellbeing. Thank you for being a part of our Six Seconds community and helping us to bring emotional intelligence to one billion people.

Warmly,

Patty Freedman

POP-UP Wish Chain 2021 in Saudi Arabia

Hello friends,

After a successful 2021 POP-UP festival, we are excited to share our progress with you at the start of 2022!

This year Six Seconds is celebrating its 25th anniversary. One thing we’re especially excited about is implementing our new initiative– 2022 Cohort of Wellbeing Changemakers. This project is possible thanks to you and the successful fundraising in 2021. We’re truly grateful for your continous support in helping us raise these funds - which will enable us to make this year’s POP-UP bigger and better.

We are currently in the process of hiring new interns who will be assisting us in the below areas:

  • Making new POP-UP Festival content designed for teens
  • Researching and annotating evidence for wellbeing efficacy studies
  • Developing advocacy networks  for building connections with other wellbeing organizations

We’re looking forward to sharing more information as we make progress in the above areas.

We’re excited to expand our POP-UP Festival outreach to more children around the world and provide them wellbeing resources as COVID-19 continues to be a disruptor for many communities. We’d really appreciate you spreading the word and encouraging people in your network to be part of the festival. Please feel free to share POP-UP festival registration page (see link below)

Thank you for being a part of our POP-UP community and helping us increase children’s wellbeing around the world.

Warmly,

Patty Freedman

Hello friends,

We can’t believe it's almost time for our big POP-UP festival! We are gearing up to amplify the reach of POP-UP Festival in partnership with UNICEF World Children's Day, by expanding reach through alliances with international organizations, including:

RED NOSE DAY USA- This exciting partnership will bring together empathy, kindness, friendship and humor. POP-UP Festival created 3 new activities in partnership with Red Nose Day to be shared with 30,000 teachers in USA.

EMPATICO - It is a classroom exchange program with virtual connections for 42,000+ educators. They will be hosting virtual POP-UP Festivals in November 2021 focusing on SDGs 3, 4, and 13 with lessons on Empathy, Education, and Youth Environmental Action.

AEON Group - POP-UP Festivals will be held at AEON mall locations in Osaka, Japan with expected guests of 5000. The event is focused on developing children's emotional intelligence skills, raising awareness for children’s rights for UNICEF World Children’s Day, and making connections with children around the world. In Nov 2021 AEON will pilot the event and expand the program to multiple countries in 2022.

TODDLE - POP-UP Festival is featured on education platform Toddle for primary school learners. Toddle is an all-in-one teaching-learning platform for schools following the IB or UbD® curriculum frameworks and is used by 25,000+ teachers around the world.

TEACH FOR ALL - TFA will share the POP-UP Festival links and resources with 85,000 teachers in their network globally.

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF JORDAN- The Children’s Museum is a learning organization that applies the learning through play pedagogy. They create interactive spaces to stimulate children’s curiosity and deliver learning through educational exhibits, interactive programs and educational facilitation. This year they will be featuring a POP-UP Festival expo to bring more awareness about children’s emotional wellbeing.

We can’t wait for POP-UP to be reached to more children around the world.

Thank you for being a part of our POP-UP community and helping us increase children’s wellbeing around the world.
