Since it became active in June 2023, almost 10,000 families have been affected by Mt. Mayon in Albay, Bicol, Philippines. Five months after, weak lava effusion from the volcano's summit crater continues. Alert Level 3 is maintained over the dangerous mountain as it is still in a relatively high level of unrest. Hazardous eruption within weeks or days remains a possibility.
CDRC's regional partner, Tarabang para sa Bikol, Inc. (TABI) provided hot meals and psychosocial support to the Mayon evacuees with the help of people's organizations and disaster preparedness committees. Through pooled resources raised by both organizations and through the Community Kitchen set up and run by the evacuees themselves, hot and nutritious food were provided to the displaced. Because there is community support and involvement, these efforts were sustained for months.
Through the generous donations of Filipinos abroad, GlobalGiving donors, and various groups and partners in the Philippines and overseas, community kitchen sets were distributed to different organizations running community kitchens inside evacuation centers and thousands of evacuees received hot meals and psychosocial support.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
