Project Report | Nov 15, 2023
Planting trees and watching birds

By Claudia M Macias C | Project Leader

Getting ready to plant
Getting ready to plant

In the first semester of 2023 we produced about 80 thousand plants of more than twenty native species of mixed pine-oak forests -seeds of these twenty species were collected in the Highlands of Chiapas-. In the Summer (June-September) we distributed these plants among more than 12 rural indigenous communities who committed to plant them in disturbed sites in the localities where they live. Each community leader group invited its inhabitants to participate in the reforestation. In total, more than 500 people participated, from children to senior citizens, all putting their hands and hearts to the rescue of the natural forests.

At the same time, we promoted with local birdwatcher groups the visit to the mixed forests to recognize and observe the migratory and resident birds that inhabit these forests, and to recognize the importance of the provision of ecosystem services that forests provide, such as habitat for wildlife, water, and recreational sites, among many others.
