How do we start planting?
We take a walk around the City and discover our urban forest... where are the trees? who care of them?... is this something we like? if not, how we would like the city looks like? that is how we start planing to make this world a better place for us and for our childres in future.
We start thinking in our Vision of greening San Luis Potosi, bringing nature to the city, decreasing pollution, creating wildlife habitat, conserving energy, producing more oxygen, and share these thoughts with our local goverment.
Talking with the local goverment about locations, neighbors backyards, sidewalks, city parks, schools, vacant lots which need this greening Vision.
Then we invited the neighborhoods door to door, flyers, neighborhood groups memos and select the final location based on surrounding vegetation topography, sunlight, slope, soil type, type of trees, number of volunteers required, permits.
It´s very important prepairing the site for the event day, because we have to check and validate what is needed, the access for the vehicles, clearing vegetation, digging a hole, water source, restrooms. As well a couple weeks before the event, we get permits, take the "before" pictures, recruit volunteers, make a map to the site and of the site, tell volunteers what to wear and bring to the event, and spreading the word; we do a timeline for each event:
The next steep is start to planning the next planting day.
Thank you GlobalGiving, thank you Donors, thank you Volunteers, all the members in Proforestal are truly excited for greening San Luis Potosi since our beginning back to April 2nd, 2016. Since that day we have planted 585 trees, 225 volunteers have joined and planted trees in 8 sites. We have spread the word in almost 10,000 people, and now we are working in our mailing list of 1500 people.
We will keep you updated about our activities.
