So far, our project “Plant Kitchen Gardens for Families in Need in India” has received over 1160 donations from people around the world to grow nutritious fruit and vegetable gardens for families in need in the remote, underserved state of Jharkhand, India.

Our Kitchen Gardens program has distributed 15,906 fruit trees and 23,743 seed packets, resulting in over 18,000 kitchen gardens being planted! We will continue to work hard this year to expand our Kitchen Garden program to help even more families grow nutritious food and improve their quality of life.

It is through your support that this important work is possible. Thank you!

Together, we are not only improving conditions for the short term — we are also planting seeds of altruism that will continue to grow and flourish over time.

Thank you for being a part of this essential project!

As 2019 draws to a close, we are celebrating our 20th year of helping children and their families in hundreds of under-served villages in India and Nepal, to break the cycle of poverty and reach their full potential.

Because of your support, our project “Plant Kitchen Gardens for Families in Need in India” is growing strong!

The seeds we distributed last spring have grown into nourishing vegetables, fruits, and grains that will provide nourishment throughout the winter. Through ongoing training, we taught gardeners to make and use natural fertilizers and pesticides to ensure the gardens were as healthful and bountiful as possible. In addition, we are educating more families in need about the benefits of organic kitchen gardens to help reduce malnutrition.

Help us head into 2020 ready to provide training, non-GMO seeds, and ongoing support to villagers to fight malnutrition and ensure long-term sustainability. Together, we are supporting and empowering villagers with sustainable skills to nourish themselves and their families, and it’s your generosity that makes this work possible. Thank you for joining us on our journey and supporting compassionate action!

Welcome to our Fall 2019 update!

We’re so happy to share that our project “Plant Kitchen Gardens for Families in Need in India” has received over 1,000 donations from people around the world! Together, we’re helping to grow nutritious fruit and vegetable gardens for families in need in the remote, underserved state of Jharkhand, India! We are working with villagers to distribute seeds and plants, install wells and irrigation systems, and teach women and families in-need to tend their own gardens and collaborate with others to increase long-term sustainability.

So far in 2019, thanks to your support, we have been able to provide 9310 households with seed packets for their kitchen gardens, and over 4000 fruit trees including mango, guava, lemon, and jackfruit have already been distributed to over 1000 households. Along with seed and plant distribution, our field staff is working with villagers to provide information and guidance while they plant and grow their gardens.

Active support from people around the world is helping us fight malnutrition and ensure long-term sustainability. We urge you to please continue your support so that we can help more families-in-need through this sustainable, empowering program.

Thank you for being a part of this essential project!

Together, we’re growing a sustainable solution to hunger and malnutrition in Northern India. Kitchen gardens provide a practical, sustainable way for families to grow their own nutrient-rich food — and improve quality of life.

So far, our project “Plant Kitchen Gardens for Families in Need in India” has received over 970 donations from people around the world to grow nutritious fruit and vegetable gardens for families in need in the remote, underserved state of Jharkhand, India! We are working with villagers to distribute seeds and plants, install wells and irrigation systems, and teach women and families in-need to tend their own gardens and collaborate with others to increase long-term sustainability.

Mahadev is one of the villagers who has grown a nutritious garden thanks to this project. “Previously, we survived on just rice and lentils. There were no vegetables at home because it was too expensive to purchase them at the market. Now because of the kitchen gardens we have fresh fruits and vegetables in our own backyard! We definitely feel healthier than before.”

The gardens planted by the project are growing in more ways than one. Dhan is one of the people we have helped and inspired to take compassionate action of her own. After participating in our Kitchen Garden program and learning the importance of growing a variety of vegetables for her family, she decided to spread the abundance by helping her neighbors plan and start gardens of their own.

“I want to help other villagers start and enjoy more home-grown vegetables,” Dhan says.

Together, we are not only improving conditions for the short term — we are also planting seeds of altruism that will continue to grow and flourish over time.

Nutritious vegetable gardens are reducing malnutrition and improving food security for families in need in the remote, underserved state of Jharkhand, India.

Kitchen gardens provide a practical, sustainable way for families to grow their own nutrient-rich food and improve quality of life. Thanks to strong support from you and other donors around the world, we are:

  • Distributing non-GMO seeds and plants to grow nutritious, organic fruit and vegetable gardens.
  • Installing wells and irrigation systems to sustain the gardens.
  • Teaching women and families in-need to tend their own gardens and collaborate with others to increase long-term sustainability.

Let's meet our beneficiaries:

Subhadra Mathur is the primary caretaker of her 90-year-old parents. Thanks to her organic kitchen garden, she and her parents can now eat nutritious vegetables on a regular basis.

Bhavani and Sarat had a hard time incorporating fresh vegetables into their diet because making trips to the market was time consuming and expensive. Growing vegetables in their own garden has made it easier for them to eat fresh vegetables regularly and get the nutrition they need. They are also able to sell their surplus at the market to supplement their income.

Active support from people around the world is helping us fight malnutrition and ensure long-term sustainability. We urge you to please continue your support so that we can help more families-in-need through this wonderful, empowering program.

Thank you for being a part of this essential project!
