In Tanga region Tarawe Reserve Forest is experiencing huge deforestation activities associated with human activities such as agricultural activities,and burning down of the forest destroying natural biodiversity, destruction of water resources.The project is focused on planting 20,000 trees to restore ecosystem and conserving 10 water sources at Shume Reserve Forest. Agroforestry and fruits trees planting in schools and local farmers.
Approximately 50 percent of Tarawe Reserve Forest is destroyed by human activities, creating empty vacuum and has destroyed rivers,water streams which were flowing and providing safe water to local reducing the production of crops and leading to poor harvest, destroyed biodiversity has been affecting tourism leading to decline in level of income.
The project will plant 20,000 trees including native trees to restore biodiversity and ecosystem,also planting of water retaining plants to restore water sources to feed water to 3,000 Tarawe population.The project also will plant fruits trees for 10 schools to add nutrition and food.
Potential long term impacts are -Sustainable water access to local community members of Shume through restoration of water sources. -Restoration of biodiversity -Providing training and education to local community in the importance of restoration of forests.
