Plant 10,000 Trees to Reduce Carbon Footprints

Protecting the environment begins with people coming together to care for the natural resources they depend on every day.

As part of our efforts to restore commons and create a greener future, Seva Mandir, together with Van Utthan Sansthan, organised a two-day workshop focused on the conservation and sustainable management of shared natural resources.

Around 55 women, youth, village elders, community leaders, and programme team members came together to reflect on the challenges facing their common resources, including village pastures, community forests, traditional water bodies and wetlands.

Through group discussions and participatory exercises, participants shared their experiences and ideas for protecting these resources. The conversations also focused on strengthening community institutions and creating greater opportunities for women and young people to take part in local environmental planning and action.

The workshop helped develop a roadmap for the way forward, including raising awareness about the sustainable use of commons, strengthening community capacity around forest conservation, and working with local government agencies and Village Councils.

For us, planting trees is not only about putting saplings in the ground. It is also about creating communities that have the knowledge, confidence, and collective responsibility to protect the land and natural resources around them.
