Our mission is to provide, promote, and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care. PPCW provides a complete range of family planning, STD testing and treatment, and other medical services.
Half of sexually active young people have an STD by the age of 25. 48.5% of teens have had sex by 11th grade. This year, over 150,000 teens will become pregnant in PPCW's service area. In PPCW's service area of 28 Oregon counties and two counties in southwest Washington, more than 170,000 low-income women need family planning care, but cannot afford care without help from publicly-subsidized services. PPCW serves over 60,000 low-income patients a year.
PPCW will provide, promote and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care in Oregon and SW Washington. 95% of our patients are female, 83% are under age 30, and 92% live at or below the poverty level. PPCW will provide comprehensive, age-appropriate sexual health education to over 20,000 youth; reduce unintended pregnancy and births, especially among young people; and heighten public awareness of health care issues. We provide accessible, affordable, high-quality health services.
The long-term goal is to decrease the number of unintended pregnancies and decrease the rate of sexually transmitted infections to foster a healthier community. Progress will be measured against the following established health services metrics: 1) Increase number of patients served to 90,000 (FY 14); 2) Increase number of teens, families and youth-serving adults reached through Education Program to 25,000 (FY 14); and 3) Improve our capacity to meet the increasing demand for our services.
