Summary

Ebenezer Children's Home has served as an institutional care facility for orphaned and vulnerable children in Livingstone, Zambia, since 2001. The goal of this project is to reunite 15 of 22 children from the Home into safe and stable family environments by the end of 2025. In order to make sure that families can sustainably care for their children, we provide economic empowerment, food assistance, and positive parenting training.

Challenge

Most of the children admitted into our care come from situations such as poverty, illnesses like HIV/AIDS, abuse, or the death of parents or guardians. In 2022, the Children's Code Act No. 12 was enacted, and one section of the act states that child care facilities should only be used as a 'last resort' for children in need of care and encourages for vulnerable children to be reunited with their families. Without support, these families can struggle to care for their children or the child is at

Solution

Ebenezer will reunite children with families by equipping caregivers to sustainably care for them. A relative or trusted adult (Person of Peace) is identified and trained in basic business and financial literacy. Each household receives a seed fund to start a small business and food supplements for up to six months (so that they can focus on business growth and not just daily survival). Additional support such as counselling, education, and healthcare is given for safe & stable placement.

Long-Term Impact

This project ensures children grow up in safe & stable families with strong cultural ties. 15 Caregivers gain financial and business skills to support their households sustainably. Children observe and learn entrepreneurship firsthand, gaining life skills for the future. Ongoing support, such as education, healthcare, and counselling, strengthens the home environment in the long term.
