Accident Victims Now Stand a Chance

Dear Concerned Friends,

To answer a very urgent global need the first conclave of participants in the Prompt Intervention Volunteer 1st Aid Tutorials (PIVAT) program took place at the Bangkok headquarters of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) on the 18th and 19th of January 2018.  Anecdotal and researched reports were presented by representatives from Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and the USA.

The PIVAT initiative is an online web-based First Aid education platform providing immediate, simplified, native-language access to medical crisis situation management via 2-3 minute interactive video instruction modules.  Apart from IMCRA's present online platforms for physician clinical guidance, the PIVAT program will convert the smartphone to an immediate guide for the lay public in the face of an emergency urgently requiring action.

The presentation of each national representative confirmed essentially the same thing.  In each country, the current popular response to a drowning child, the victim of a traffic accident, or anyone with an urgent medical need, is to stand back while taking voyeuristic smartphone photos and videos.  The explanation for this has overwhelmingly been that these people have no idea what to do to save the person in distress.  In the cases where some intervention was attempted, the techniques were either folk-primitive, or clumsy and ineffectual, often presenting further danger to the victim.

The international response to PIVAT has been stunningly positive and enthusiastic, with next steps being fundraising, the recruiting of expert first-responder/EMT specialist faculty, and establishment of the platform itself, ideally as a currently downloadable or free app on the next generation of smartphones.

Your assistance in getting to these next steps would be a major contribution to helping us make current wireless technology the savior of thousands of innocent victims.  Victiims who would otherwise perish or suffer severe harm through the absence of prompt intervention, easily rendered by even a minimally-informed passer-by, will now get a second chance.

Thank you!

PIVAT Purpose

  • To enable those who want to intervene in a medical crisis (Prompt Interventional Volunteer) to do so in an effective and medically beneficial manner
  • To assure that the volunteer is able to rapidly and effectively access the best step-by-step guide to responding to the scenario for first response action immediately and via Smartphone
  • To assure that the modules accessed by the first responder are medically appropriate, short, highly focused on the specific accident pathology, and can clearly relay the necessary steps with appropriate materials within the space of 2-3 minutes
  • To assure that the modules are clearly delivered in the national language and easily understood and followed
  • To provide additional materials and resources as needed.
