During the last 4 months, our regional office held thematic meetings with the LGBTQ community and allies. Most of the events, such as film screenings, discussions, workshops were dedicated to community strengthening, capacity building and ensuring the creation of a safe space.
Since August 2021, our social worker and psychologist worked with 25 beneficiaries in the region. Also we managed to hire a new lawyer who works with the regional team and provides online and in-person counselings to our beneficiaries. During this period we had 40 beneficiaries constantly visiting the regional office, attending social events and gatherings.
There is a need to acknowledge the existing challenges for our regional office and the community there. These challenges include safety and security issues, especially in the aftermath of the 2020 war and the continuous aggression of Azerbaijan. In such a situation, LGBTQ people are targeted in hate speech campaigns and political manipulations.
Despite the challenges, our regional office has had significant achievements, one of the most significant ones is the establishment and the impact of the office as a safe space. We have ensured sustainable and respectful communication as well as collaboration on interpersonal, emotional and interesting issues. We have also prioritized the importance of trust-building while leading discussions with our specialists and service providers to sustain the quality of the services provided to the LGBTQ community.
We want to take this opportunity to highlight that Pink Armenia’s regional office is sustained through your generous donations and crowdfunding efforts. We appreciate your support and dedication to the advancement of the rights of LGBTQ people in Armenia’s regions.
