Free Physiotherapy to 100 people with disabilities

By Lucy Bhaskar | Admin Manager

In the last quarter, alongside our regular services, Sparshaguna organized a number of camps in different locations to provide the best possible facilities to underserved communities. In total, we conducted five camps.

One camp was held in Kolar district, where we attended to eight individuals. Of these, six were spinal cord injury patients with ulcers, and two were stroke cases.

We conducted four camps at Sumanahalli on different days, screening a total of 53 individuals. These included three assessment camps for modified footwear, activities of daily living (ADL) products, and various locomotor aids and appliances. Additionally, we organized one fitment camp where we provided customized footwear to 15 individuals suffering from chronic non-healing foot ulcers due to leprosy.

Another camp took place in Gauribidanur, where we assessed 42 individuals of all age groups with moderate to severe locomotor disabilities. We took measurements for aids, including wheelchairs, orthoses, prostheses, and positional devices based on their needs, which will be delivered in February 2025.

Our team also made a one-day visit to Wayanad, where we assessed 17 individuals with various locomotor disabilities, including cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, and spinal cord injuries. We concluded that 15 of them would require customized wheelchairs. We are working with our partners to expedite this process and deliver the wheelchairs soon.

In Gulbarga, our team identified 31 new cases, of which 11 were spinal cord injuries, while the rest were different types of locomotor disabilities. We assessed the individuals and educated their families about the conditions, prognosis, and necessary steps for their care.

By the end of January, we had registered a total of 29 cases at our rehab center. Currently, we are providing regular therapy and ulcer management for 10 individuals.
