DLSU-COSCA participated in the efforts of government's in bringing back Metro Manila's waterways into life through the "Adopt-an-Estero Programt."
Leaders from Barangays 718 and 720, DLSU's partner Barangay Local Government Units (LGUs), together with some of their community members participated in the September 22, 2018 clean up activity to help rehabilitate the Estero de Maytubig. The activity which coincided with the celebration of the International Coastal Clean-up Month supported the efforts of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, Metro Manila Development Authority and the City Government of Manila to clean the water.ways.
Following the September 22, 2018l clean-up of Manila's waterways is the November 17, 2018 clean-up activity in Manila bay organized by the Manila Bay Sunset Partnership Program, Inc. (MBSPPI), through the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the De La Salle University, MBSPPI's partners academic institutions and the Division of City Schools of Manila. The event which marked the celebration of the National Environmental Awareness Month was participated by approximately 800 volunteers from MBSPPI's member organizations (Photos during the Manila Bay clean up were shared by the Land Bank of the Philippines and the Division of City Schools- Manila).
Also, another initiative to help save and protect the environment is DLSU-COSCA's participation in saving the Arroceros Forest Park, considered as "Manila's Last Lung." COSCA supported a signature campaign - an online petition (which ended until November 21, 2018) to save the Arroceros Forest Park. The forest park is a 2.2 - hectare urban forest and is home to 61 types of trees, 8,000 ornamental plants, and 10 bird species which the city government decided to remove and replace with a gymnasium. DLSU-COSCA supported the campaign for the City Government of Manila to reconsider its decision and help save "Manila's Last Lung."
