Relief Operations for Communities Affected by Typhoon Karding – Habagat
The Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) in collaboration with its community partners and student volunteers facilitated the relief operations for families affected by the monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Karding. The monsoon rain brought heavy rains for days causing widespread flooding in many thoroughfares in Metro Manila and in many areas of Luzon leaving people trapped in homes and stranded on the streets and rendering major roads in Central Luzon, CALABARZON , MIMAROPA, Metro Manila and the Cordillera region impassable.

Through the your generous support and time and resources shared by the Lasallian community, we were able to help families in the following partner communities: Brgy Bagong Silangan, Quezon City (Q.C.) (634 households (HH)/3,101 individuals), Brgy San Vicente and Old Capital, Q.C. (100 HH/approx.. 400 individuals), Brgy San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal (30 HH/approx. 120 individuals, Brgys. Support for DLSP’s “Pakapipiya Ka” Project Continues
DLSU COSCA continues support for De La Salle Philippines (DLSP)-initiated activities for sustained Marawi rehabilitation. In the series of meetings, attended by representatives of DLSP -member schools, DLSP shifted focus in terms of intervention to consider and complement government initiatives on infrastructure and provision of other basic services thus, the launching of the “Pakapipiya Ka” School Assistance Project.
The “Pakakapiya Ka” School Assistance Project facilitated the distribution of school bags with poncho to students of public schools in Marawi City. A school bag costs Php 300. Including the standard learner’s kit / school supplies which costs Php 100 and an amount of Php 50 allotted for the cost of freight, total cost amounted to Php 450.00). The project is DLSP’s initiative to contribute to the recovery and rehabilitation activities being undertaken by government, the private sector and non-government organizations - a venue for members of the Lasallian community to be one with our brethren in Marawi.
For the actual distribution of the school bags to students in public schools near Marawi, a video-documentation of the turn-over activity is shared by DLSP in this update: https://tinyurl.com/pakapipiyaka.
