update on the relief efforts for yolanda survivors

By joseph rosal | coordinator for community engagement

De la salle university together with de la salle philippines spearheaded the relief effort for the survivors of the onslaught of super typhoon yolanda/haiyan in the visayas. Using dlsu as the hub of operations, in kind donations were sorted and repacked by a steady stream of volunteers coming from the general public. Repacking was conducted in a manner consistent with the dlsp family relief pack standards of rice, noodles or munggo beans; cans of sardines or corned beef; bottled water; biscuit; coffee; sugar; salt; candle; match; slippers; clothes; and toiletries.

As a result, the volunteers were able to repack and load a total of 12,000 family relief packages onto container vans bound for guiuan (samar), coron (palawan) and leyte. Our local contacts include diocese, parishes and church based groups who in turn would be incharge of distribution to the communities.

Donations are still arriving and repacking is still on-going at dlsu. By the 1st week of december, we will be shifting to the second phase of our assistance. this now would entail the conduct of psychological first aid. We are currently consolidating our human and logistical resources for this.

Our planned third phase is rehabilitation of schools.

We still need your help.
