Supporting coconut-based enterprises

Dear Friend,

Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project assisting those affected by extreme weather events here in our place. The El Nino not only brings long severe dry season but also strong rain and wind that destroys crops . This reporting period we focused our support to small, marginal farmers who are producing copra from their coconut trees. While the price of copra change and could go up and down depending on world markets, we trained them to make use of coconut by-products such as the husk, coconut water  and shell so that they will be able to earn additional income. Coconut water when stored can be made into vinegar by adding a small amount of yeast while the husk can be used as mulch for the plants or grounded and used as fertilizer. The shell can be turned into high-grade charcoal that can be sold or used in cooking. We were able to train and demonstrate the processes to 35 farmers living near our demonstration farm.

Again thank you very much for your generous support.

Very sincerely yours,

Cora Sayre
