Summary

For decades, the rural community of Kuladhakni in Shani , Borno State, Nigeria, has lacked adequate access to basic healthcare services. Families have endured preventable illnesses, and mothers have faced the dangers of childbirth without medical support. In 2017, MOLDEV brought a ray of hope with the establishment of a Primary Health Care Centre, designed to serve over 5,000 residents. The facility focuses on maternal and child health while also addressing other common but deadly health issues.

Challenge

The residents of the community lack adequate access to basic healthcare services. There is an alarmingly high rate of maternal and child mortality. In severe cases, residents travel nearly 60 kilometers to the nearest hospital, and tragically, some never make it. A health facility project under construction, designed to cater to over 5000 residents, has been devastated by a windstorm that destroyed the roof of the building, a project that has been a beacon of hope for the residents

Solution

This project will provide primary health care facility/services and potable drinking water to the community and environs with an estimated population of over 5000 people. This will reduce the high mortality rates among the people. The high maternal/child mortality rates will also reduce. It will also: 1. Improved the health and well-being for 5,000 villagers. 2. Increased access to essential health services. 3. Enhanced emergency preparedness and response in the community.

Long-Term Impact

At the completion and equipping of the facility, over 5000 people of the community will no longer travel long distance to access the basic primary health care services and clean drinking water thereby improving their productivity and wellbeing as an agrarian community. The surrounding communities will also have improved access to health care services
