This report provides an update on the recent educational activities facilitated by PHASE Nepal on 23rd May 2024 at Gram Sudhar Basic School in Gokarneshwor, as part of our ongoing education program. A key highlight of the period was the election simulation held to teach students about democratic processes and leadership selection.

Election Simulation Event

On 23 May 2024, PHASE Nepal, in collaboration with Gram Sudhar Basic School, organized an election simulation for the formation of Child Club representatives and the election of the school captain and vice-captain. This simulation aimed to provide practical experience to students on how to select leaders in a democratic system.

Participants and Roles:

  • Candidates: Students who aspired to be Child Club representatives, school captain, or vice-captain.
  • Voters: The rest of the student body.
  • Teachers: Conducted the election, acting as supervisors and members of the election commission.
  • PHASE Nepal Representatives: Served as external observers to ensure the process's integrity.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understanding Democratic Processes: Students learned about the selection of political leaders and governments through elections, the roles of citizens and leaders, and the overall election process.
  • Curriculum Support: This activity supported the social studies curriculum, particularly lessons on the formation of parliament and the three levels of government in Nepal.
  • Practical Leadership Experience: Students gained hands-on experience in democratic decision-making and leadership selection.

The election simulation culminated in the selection of the following positions:

  • Child Club Representatives:
    • Chairperson
    • Vice-Chair
    • Treasurer
    • Secretary
    • Additional members (to be selected by the elected body)
  • School Leadership:
    • School Captain
    • Vice-Captain

The election simulation was a best practice in educational methods, providing students with an opportunity to practice and learn independently. It effectively reinforced classroom teachings with real-world applications, preparing students to be active and informed citizens.

We thank you for your continuous support and in future we plan to continue such practical learning activities like Science Experiments and Community Service Projects etc to enhance the educational experience and leadership skills of our students. We appreciate the support from you, which makes these initiatives possible.
