Training 1500 Teachers |Empowering 5000 Girls/Boys

Dear friends,

We are happy to share the latest event in our educational endeavors this quarter. We express our sincere thanks for your ongoing support, enabling us to successfully conduct a two days teacher training program on the topic ‘Gender-Sensitive School’ at Soru rural municipality,  4 Libru Mugu. Your generosity has allowed PHASE Nepal to reach in this remote area to sensitize 36, 17 male, 19 female teachers this quarter. The participants were teachers from six government schools. The majority of these teachers are employed in basic-level schools.

The training successfully transferred knowledge and skills to participants about making schools friendlier for both girls and boys, about dealing with challenges like girls' menstruation at school, bullying and sexual harassment, and highlighting the importance of understanding gender dynamics.

The participants learnt about the difference between Gender and Sex and they were convinced that Gender roles are possible to be changed. It was discussed that societal stereotypes that confine girls to domestic responsibilities and discourage their pursuit of education. The consensus among the participants was that prioritizing education has the potential to significantly alter the trajectory of girls' lives, emphasizing the importance of breaking free from limiting stereotypes and fostering an environment that supports educational empowerment for all.

On the second day, it was discussed about understanding gender issues in schools. This included being respectful of personal boundaries, looking into the issue of early child marriage, and addressing the serious problem of human trafficking. These discussions are important as we work towards creating better and more compassionate educational environments.

Overall, the training was a success, and we are grateful for your invaluable support in empowering girls in Himalayan region through a teacher training program.
