Project

Good Health and Sanitation is a necessary requirement of students for their education. They should follow the rules of hygiene and sanitation.  To remain active and fit, their daily routine should be regulated and follow good sanitation practices.  If the students do not have good health than they cannot concentrate in their studies and may remain absent from the school and left behind in studies. Their performance will be poor and can be judged as below standard.

Purpose of the Project

The purpose of the project is to provide good environment in the school. Keep the students healthy and fit to take up their education without any breaks.  The performance of the students should be up to the mark and they come out to be healthy and well groomed citizens to take up the challenges of their life.

Current Situation

The students are from poor families who are living in under BPL conditions and cannot spare money for medical checkup of their wards.  The diseases of their wards remain unnoticed till it develops/inflates.  In this situation, the student cannot attend the school regularly, remains absent at different intervals and the performance becomes poor as they lack behind in the studies. To avoid the situation, it is necessary that the students should be medically examined during their educational tenure in the school. So that the diseases if any are existing in their body can be examined and treated as per the needs. They should remain healthy to take the education curriculum without any breaks during the teaching period.

Since the students are from poor families some of them are malnutrition and often remain sick and absent from the school and therefore their performance also remains poor.

What we did to improve the situation

We arranged medical examination of each student at the interval of six months during their educational tenure in the school for following medical examination:-

  1. General Health Checkup Treatment
  2. Eyes Testing Treatment
  3. Dental Checkup and Treatment

Team of specialized doctors in above fields visits the school to examine the students for above and prepare a medical report of each student.  If any deficiency is noticed during examination by the doctors the same is mentioned in the medical report card.  For the small deficiencies, the treatment is given in the school and if there are any requirements for long term treatment the same are also mentioned and information is given to their parents, so that the required treatment can be carried out at the clinics of the doctors as per the needs.  There are some doctors and clinics on the school panel for such treatments.  If possible as per the needs the monetary help is also given.

We also arrange once a year the Awareness Camps for the parents about the importance of health and sanitation for their wards which is necessary for their educational tenure.

The group of students during medical examination who were found malnutrition and were weak to take up the educational programme were given morning meals, so that malnutrition deficiency is removed in them and they could concentrate on studies happily.

Results

The students and their parents know in advance about the medical deficiencies of their wards for appropriate treatment at a right time before the disease is inflated.  The children remain healthy, energetic and fit for taking up educational programme. They attend the school regularly and absenteeism is reduced. There is no break in the studies and their performance remains consistent. After the education, the students come out well groomed and confident to face the challenges of their life.

The group of students who are malnutrition were given morning meals and deficiency was removed.

Thanks to Donors

The organizers and the beneficiaries of this project feel grateful and extent thanks to the donor for their contribution for the project.  There donations makes it possible to happen this, without which it would not have been possible.  Parents of the students also feels obliged to the donors for the financial help as they could not have afforded the medical expenses of their wards.

Utilization of funds

The funds received from donors are utilized for making the payment to the doctors’ fees as well as for the expenses incurred in the treatment of the students for the medical deficiencies noticed during the examination.  Part of the funds is also utilized for the medicines prescribed by doctors for the treatment of the students. The fund was also utilized for providing morning meal to malnutrition students.

Quotes from the beneficiaries

All students of BDP school, Barauli, Block Baldev, Distt. Mathura, UP, India were medically examined for all the tests and they were benefited by this medical examination. Some deficiencies were found in around 10% of students and they were treated by the medical team and were also advice to follow the treatment.  All such students recovered from the deficiencies and attended their educational programme with other students in the normal routine.  One such beneficiary Dharmender student of class III of BDP School, who was having eyes problem were treated for four weeks and recovered to the normal eye sight and the difficulty he was facing in reading and writing in the class was removed and he overcome the disease and study with other students.
