Women are more likely to work in the sectors hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, and due to the gender and race wage gap, are starting the economic recovery from behind. While the barriers to economic self-sufficiency that WEN clients have faced since 1986 may be worse this year than ever before, our proven model provides women in Kansas City with the empowerment and tools to persevere through change - and succeed!
The Covid-19 pandemic began changing the way we work almost a year and a half ago. Since then, Women's Employment Network has had a front-row seat to the employment and financial challenges women have faced. A quick look at the news will show you a flood of reporting on the economy, jobs, and household finance. WEN's mission of helping women achieve economic self-sufficiency through sustained employment is greatly affected by all of this change.
Women are more likely to work in the hardest-hit sectors and started the economic recovery from behind. Many of the same barriers to their economic self-sufficiency that WEN clients have faced since 1986-barriers like child care, transportation, and sustained employment-may be worse this year than ever before. Our throughline through 35 years has been our ability to meet a woman where she is, help her establish where she wants to go, and then support and guide her in that process.
There are employment and financial problems that still aren't fixed for women in Kansas City. The funds you contribute will enable us to provide 35 women in Kansas City with the empowerment and tools they need to persevere and succeed, creating a positive ripple effect that one woman's transformation can have on herself, her family, and her community.
