We supported more people with Down syndrome to speak up at important international events, including at the United Nations.
"We need to commit to make healthcare fair for all people, including people like me."
Our Ambassador for Switzerland, Pearl Lüthy, gave the opening speech at a Thematic Pre-Summit on Health Equity for Persons with Disabilities leading up to the Global Disability Summit 2025. This event was co-hosted by World Health Organization, the Permanent Mission of Sweden in Geneva, the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Global Disability Fund (GDF), and the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC).
Pearl spoke about her experience of healthcare, where she was given an injection without her consent.
Speakers from around the world at UN Geneva and New York
We also supported people with Down syndrome to speak up on 21 March for World Down Syndrome Day at the United Nations in New York and Geneva. This included people with Down syndrome from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Ireland, Norway, Peru, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and the USA.
They spoke about the support systems in their countries, calling for governments to 'Improve Our Support Systems.
Thank you for you support, which makes work like this possible.
