Let's embrace our history
Let's embrace our history

Dear all,

We are deligthed to inform that the designer team has rendered the the final version of the collection, we are ready to print!

First we want to thank the designer team: Luis Barvalópez, Alexandra Tello, Omar Pineda and Helene Pineda, you did a great job, we are humble to have you on our side, and thanks for donated part of your work for this project.

As we have shared with you already, printing is financially the heaviest phase of the project. We need $20.000 to print 1000 copies of the collection to be distributed in every public school and library in Cartagena. We have contacted local goverment entities that should be organic partners for this project  but we are yet to received a positive answer, so we would like to encourage you to help us raised these $20.000, share this projects with your friends and family, and let's make this happen, with your help we can make it! happen

Best regards, and thanks for your constant support.

Dear all,

The designer team continues to work on the book collection, and we are very happy to inform that we love the feeling the collection will have. We are extending the timeline of the project as COVID lockdown has slow down everything, we will have a better picture of the new timeline as the COVID situation unfolds, we'll keep you posted.

The relevance of this project still intact and as we approach the printing stage we need your help more than ever. Printing is financially the heaviest stage, we need your support!

In this update we are sharing with you  a couple of extracts from the collection.

We are very grateful for your continuous support!

We are beyond excited to tell you that since last December an amazing group of local designers has joined the Pechiches Team. They have been working really hard in creating the image of the book collection and in this report, for the first time, you'll get to see some of the illustrations of the books!!

The local designer team is: Luis Barvalópez, Alexandra Tello, Jorge Enrique Sierra, Karen Gómez, Omar Pineda, Helene Pineda. We coldn't have found better partners for this stage.

This is what they told us when they were invited to the project:

"We are excited about the project cause it has everything we love: working with communities and kids, recognition of their culture, and the use of illustrations to achieve it".

"Pechiches de Papel has the ideal mix of elements to make you excited about working on it. We understand the value of culture recognition within a community and its kids, and we are convinced that with the use of an illustrated book it can be done".

Help us spread the word about this beautiful project, the heaviest financial part of the project is just around the corner: "printing the books". Our goal is to print 1,000 copies to put one in every library of Cartagena and in the communities around. We are going to need all the help we can get!

Dear Donors

We are so excited about the last campaign in Global Giving!

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that takes place December 3 this year.

We have been working with high school students from Nashua making some fundraising activities; they have been selling handcraft made by NINHA (indigenous artisans) to collect and donate this day, also they had sharing in the social media posts about save the date.

We become members of New Hampshire Writers Project (NHWP) an organization that supports the development of individual writers and encourage an audience for literature. (NHWP)  are delighted with our project Pechiches. They are a great source to find publishers, booksellers, and literary agents. We have a pending meeting with the trustee's board to talk about how they can sponsor Pechiches

We sent emails to our donors telling about this epic day,

Thank you for your support and Happy Thanks Giving

Spreading the word about Pechiches, a series of Afro-Colombian stories written by children.  I'm delighted to report that we will have a new sponsor in New Hampshire, a fellow assistant teacher in the Rassias program,Claudia Decker. Claudia has been a Spanish teacher in Nashua NH for more than twenty years and is  a trustee for the New Hampshire Writer's Project.  As a teacher, writer, and native from Colombia herself, Claudia fell in  love with this project. She will also be spreading the word to the American Asociation of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese about Pechiches during their conference in Puerto Rico in 2020.  This year, she will help us to raise funds and awareness through her chapter of the Spanish Honor Society at her high school. We will keep you posted of our progress as we plan to meet with her students regarding Pechiches on the 9th of September.
