South Sudan has one of the youngest populations, with over 70% under 30, yet decades of conflict have left many youth vulnerable to violence and recruitment by armed groups. This project trains 1,500 young people in peacebuilding and mediation skills, giving them tools to prevent disputes, promote dialogue, and strengthen community stability. The need is urgent as cycles of violence continue, and investing in youth can help break them.
Decades of conflict in South Sudan have displaced millions, weakened communities, and left youth vulnerable to cycles of violence. With limited education or job opportunities, many are recruited into armed groups or become involved in local disputes. A lack of peaceful conflict resolution methods contributes to ongoing instability, threatening future generations and weakening the chance for lasting peace.
The project will provide 1,500 youth with training in mediation, nonviolent communication, and community dialogue. Practical workshops and peer-learning sessions will equip them to resolve disputes peacefully and reduce violence in their communities. By creating a network of trained youth leaders, the project spreads peacebuilding knowledge where it is needed most and builds safer spaces for dialogue and cooperation.
Youth trained in peacebuilding can reduce violence, strengthen trust, and help communities recover from conflict. With skills in mediation, young leaders can prevent disputes from escalating, promote reconciliation, and build bridges across divided groups. Over time, this creates safer communities, supports stability, and gives young people constructive roles in building a peaceful future for South Sudan.
