With all the hustle and bustle created by the summer, our peace camp, and new volunteers arriving, we are now back in the office working hard.
The Peace Embassy has been given priority and now that we have a structred and well designed business proposal, the volunteers have been working on researching the potential of incorporating a tourist agency into the plan in order to generate income and means to become self-sustainable.
The funding available will be looked at this autumn and the possibility may arise to be able to purchase a strip of land for building the emabassy right by the bank of the sana river, and in the close proximity of the town centre, which would allow better links with the community and easy access.
Every donation we get for the Peace Embassy will be directed straight into a fund which solely aims to build a self-sustainable social enterprise which will allow us to continue the crucial work needed in Bosnia, in the current situation where funding is getting more and more scarce.
Summer at CIM, in Sanski Most is always more about action and doing, and therefore we've been busy implementing projects and the activities we've planned.
Our new project manager as well as the international volunteers have been researching and applying for potential funding that will help us take action on the ground, on our Peace Embassy, as well as running other peace activities in parallel.
We are also in the process of starting to build relationships with other organisations who are doing similar work, have a similar ethos, and have fully developed peace centres. These relationships will help us exchange ideas about how to run the centres in a sustainable way, and for us, learn from the challenges that they've encountered on the way.
We thank you kindly for your donations and patience with our project. We soon hope to deliver good news about "doing" and more concrete action about the physical foundations of the Peace Embassy.
Vahidin Omanovic, Mevludin Rahmanovic, and the CIM team
We would like to take some time and thank you so much for donating to our new project, through which we aim to build a sustainable peace embassy. We wanted to give you a glance of where we are with our project at the moment.
As we deal with a lot of cuts in funding, we aim for our organisation to be able to generate income in order to sponsor our peace project in communities across Bosnia.
In order to do this, we have designed the peace embassy to create a safe space, and a healthy environment for dialogue to flourish in the town of Sanski Most.
As the project in itself is very ambitious, we are currently working hard to secure initial funding from a few other sources, and use donations from global giving to compliment them.
At the moment we are working on acquiring the land needed to build the embassy, and we constantly work on the plans for the main building.
Major works cannot begin until the land is bought, however, we will keep you up to date on how the work will progress.
