The designs are in place for the Peace Embassy!

The Peace Embassy is continuing to develop very swiftly and we are on to the next phase! This May, the directors of CIM met with architecture students from Keene State College to go over the architecture designs for the Peace Embassy. The students brought with them 5 possible designs for the embassy, and each were presented to the directors of CIM. The designs all fit the needs of the embassy and included aspects of Bosnian culture as well as peace bulidng elements. The directors brought those designs back with them to Sanski Most and are currently meeting with Bosnian architects to convert the designs to Bosnian building standards. The next step will be to meet with donors and fundraisers for the Peace Embassy!

Here are some photos from the design meetings with the students from Keene State College!

The Peace Embassy has developed swiftly over the past several months. With the donation of a German supporter, CIM was able to purchase land in Sanski Most on which to build the Embassy. The land is flat, clear, and situated on the banks of the Sana river, not far from the center of the city.

Using the dimensions of this land, architecture students of Professor Bart Sapeta at Keene State University, USA are developing designs for the Peace Embassy. CIM has been engaging with the students on the designs, which are inspired by symbols of peace and aspects of Bosnian culture, in order to craft a design that best suits the Embassy’s many functions. The next presentation of these design proposals will be in May.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are happy to announce that after buying the land for the Peace Embassy, we have managed to organise our first activity in the space.

Despite not having walls or any building, we used our land to host a bbq for our volunteers, peace ambassadors, trainers, choir, and local community members. The event resulted in an exchange of views and ideas between our peace advocates, and the evening ended with traditional Bosnian songs and a lot of smiles.

We are currently using all our networks, and beginning the process of getting the next set of approvals and funding to build our peace embassy. The next goal we have set for ourselves is to finalise the contruction of the building by the end of 2016.

Thank you all for your wonderful and generous support. We hope you are enjoying autumn with all of its beauty and challenges.

Best regards,

The CIM Team

Dear Peace Embassy supporters,

We are happy to announce that CIM has received an incredibly generous donation in addition to our fundraising efforts, and we will be buying a lovely piece of land for our new home in Sanski Most. We couldn't be more grateful to all of the people who have invested in this achievement through wonderful donations. In December last year, we fundraised close to $8000 on GlobalGiving, and with the final drop, we will be able to finally begin the process. If all goes well, the land will be CIM's in the next two weeks.

We will now begin the second stage of the process, which means we will actively need to work towards reaching our fundraising goal for the building. In the meantime, we will be talking to architects, constructors, find a project manager, and seek lots and lots of great individual pieces of advice.

We couldn't have done it without your help. In fact, without your support and encouragement, we don't know where we'd be now, but problably much further from our dream.

The building of the community centre is planned for Spring next year. In the meantime, please share this project with your friends and families, and have them pick what they wish to help us build in Sanski Most through our donation options. The timing is great, as on the 15th of July 2015, all our donations that come in early (9am EST, and 3pm Central European time) will be matched by 40%. It is the biggest bonus we will get on GlobalGiving throughout the whole year.

We wish to thank you all once again. We set a massive goal, and you have proved that when individuals get together for a common goal, we can indeed reach impressive milestones.

Yours,

CIM's very happy team :)

As we go further into 2015, progress towards the Peace Embassy is advancing .

Firstly, the local mayor has dedicated much time to advocating for CIM to get a building to renovate on leasehold, and had meetings with the Ministry of Culture in Sarajevo. In these meetings he has presented the condition of a historic monument in Sanski Most, and emphasised the need for restoration, as well as adding another floor to suit CIM's needs for a community centre.

Interest in building a peace centre in the local community has also gotten more interest from funders. A major donor has reserved funds for renovation purposes, whilst a current partner has agreed to fund the building and running of a private kindergarten within the centre.

Finally, next week we will welcome our first social enterprise volunteer from the US, who will primarily work on the development of the Peace Embassy. Chelsea will work with our current volunteers to gather information and find additional resources to move the project forward. She will stay with us for the next 6-9 months.

Spring has arrived in Sanski Most. We hope the warmth has reached you too, wherever you are. Thank you very much for all your support so far.

Warm hugs from the CIM Team
