Summary

Pathways for Women is a trauma-informed economic empowerment project by UniCoN targeting 300 marginalized women in Ramkot village of Syangja and Pokhara slums. It aims to provide mentorship, eco-friendly product training (bags, scarfsetc.), digital literacy (business promotion, marketing), and financial education to enhance women's economic agency. The project aims to break cycles of poverty and trauma, promote healing, and build sustainable, community-led pathways to recovery and resilience.

Challenge

Women in Syangja District and the slum areas of Pokhara face multiple, overlapping challenges including economic marginalization, limited access to safe and sustainable employment, and a disproportionate burden of unpaid care work. These hardships contribute to ongoing cycles of economic trauma, negatively impacting their physical and mental health as well as the wellbeing of their families. Without targeted support, these women struggle to gain financial independence and break free from interge

The project empowers marginalized women by providing trauma-informed, practical skill development and support to build sustainable livelihoods. Through mentorship, eco-friendly product training, digital literacy, and financial education, women gain the tools to start their own businesses or access flexible employment. This approach enhances their economic agency, restores dignity, and promotes healing from economic trauma, enabling women to break cycles of poverty and improve the wellbeing.

Long-Term Impact

By equipping women with sustainable skills, economic independence, and digital and financial literacy, the project fosters lasting empowerment and resilience. It breaks intergenerational cycles of poverty and trauma, improving health and wellbeing for women, their children, and wider families. The creation of a local Mentor Hub will amplify impact by enabling knowledge-sharing and leadership within communities, driving systemic change toward gender equality and economic inclusion in marginalized
