Pathways to autonomy: tzotzil women's empowerment

During the reporting period, the Women Artisan Social Enterprises (ESMAs) continued to participate in a comprehensive training program aimed at strengthening their organizational, productive, and commercial capacities. The continuity of this process has helped consolidate previous learning while also advancing women’s greater autonomy.

Through workshops and ongoing accompaniment, the artisans have strengthened their knowledge and acquired practical tools to improve their work processes, make collective decisions, and assume greater responsibilities within their social enterprises.

In the area of production, the artisans have continued developing technical skills related to the creation, improvement, and diversification of their products. The training processes have reinforced their knowledge of quality, design, innovation, and production process optimization, providing ESMAs with greater capacity to respond to the needs and opportunities of their markets.

At the same time, efforts have focused on strengthening commercial capacities by providing tools to improve product presentation, analyze costs and pricing, identify market opportunities, and understand the importance of developing a product offering that responds to market characteristics and demands.

A particularly relevant aspect during this period has been the artisans’ participation in workshops and training spaces. Beyond acquiring technical knowledge, these spaces have become opportunities to share experiences, identify common challenges, and collectively develop alternatives to strengthen their enterprises. Peer-to-peer learning and collaborative work foster a sense of belonging and help build capacities that can remain within the organizations themselves.

The continuity of this process reaffirms that the economic empowerment of Indigenous women requires ongoing training, close accompaniment, and spaces where they can develop capacities based on their own contexts and needs. Through this strategy, the ESMAs are moving toward stronger organizations with greater capacities to manage their organizational, productive, and commercial processes.
