On June 25th, PATHS also held our yearly PATHS Forward Summit: Community IRL! Welcoming 200 registrants, the event emphasized the importance of safe online community building in a constantly evolving digital world. Sessions were led by LGBT Tech staff, as well as amazing presenters: Cielo Sunsarae, Executive Director and Founder of The Queer Trans Project; Zaria Hallager, AI Engineer; Adelyn Emter, PhD Candidate in General Experimental Psychology at University of North Dakota; and Alyssa Azál, Founder of Queer Latines.

Did you miss the event? Don’t worry, recordings of each session are now available on YouTube!

As well, in June the PATHS Mentorship Program concluded. Seventeen mentees were paired with mentors to help guide them through their journey in STEAM education and careers over the past 9 months. Mentees attended weekly mentorship meetings, career development workshops, and one-to-one meetings with their mentors to achieve their goals. We are thankful to each of our mentors for participating in this program and are excited to see where the future takes our mentees.

“I was so thankful for the PATHS team for believing in me, and gained a lot of confidence and clarity during this program.”

- PATHS Mentee

“My mentor is a fellow queer graduate student in a STEAM field, so he had a lot of valuable advice on how to protect myself while being queer in these fields, how to advocate for myself, and knowing what red flags within departments or advisors to never ignore and settle for in academia. He has also been very supportive during my entire graduate application process, and given feedback on some of my statements or advice on grad school interviews!”

- PATHS Mentee

Each month PATHS releases new episodes of the PATHS Forward Podcast featuring engaging conversations with professionals and leaders across STEAM who share their career journeys, lessons learned, and insights on navigating the industry. Whether you are exploring new opportunities, looking for inspiration, or curious about the many paths into STEAM, each episode offers thoughtful perspectives and practical advice from voices within our community. Tune in and discover stories that can inform and inspire your own journey.

This quarter we talked to Fredrick Douglas Williams - UX Designer, Brian Meyers - Product Design Director, and Alyssa Azál - Founder of Queer Latines. Our interviewees discussed their personal experience, what it means to be LGBTQ+ in STEAM, and their experiences creating diverse spaces in the workplace.
