In late 2018 we started working with the local college near out field office to build a relationship between Pahli Mulitcampus, Health Sector and Filters for Families. We donated lab tables, white boards, and long tables for meetings to the college. The Health Sector has very few resources on campus so we are building up class room facilities. Our goal is to train the local female Health students to conduct the Nurtrition and Hygiene classes as we did the local Female Health Volunteers, our Nutrition team and local femal leaders. These classes were held in 2018 and 2019 at the Parasi Office, now we are extending the classes to the college. One of the female Health Instructors worked with us to build the Nutrition Workshops for Trainings and Village Workshops in Nawalparasi. Some of her students also took the trainings and helped with the village workshops. These workshops were similar to the ones we held in Bara District. The young mothers who attended the Nawalparasi workshops were given a water filter that removes arsesnic (metals) and bacteria (SONO-mini filter), hygiene bag (soap, dehydration salts, washcloth, spoon and washable sanitation pad), fresh vegetables and the children were weighted and measured with the assistance of the students and the Female Health Volunteers and given a card that recorded the information. Among the children two were found to be underweight and were asked to followup with the local Female Health Worker. We discovered that monthly visits to the young mothers by the student teams encourages the mothers to keep on track with a healthy food and hygiene program. Some villages have Mother's Clubs, but many have been dismantled so we plan to build up these groups with the students and the women who attended the workshops along with FFF's female staff.
The college trainings were going to start in Feburary 2020 but COVID 19 put a stop to the program until colleges and businesses open up again.Slowly schools, businesses and villages are starting to open. We are planning to start trainings again when it's safe.
