Farheen sits quietly in the soft evening light on the rooftop patio of the hospice. The 19-year-old is receiving specialized palliative care at the Mandara Hospice for Children in Hyderabad, India.
Adolescents and young adults have different care needs than children and adults facing cancer or other diseases. Teenage years are complex enough without also facing a life-limiting diagnosis.
The palliative care doctors, nurses and counsellors at the Mandara Hospice have the skills to help Farheen, and other adolescents and young adults, navigate their journeys.
The ability to provide this specialized care is a success story in a country where the diagnosis of life-limiting illness comes when disease is often in advanced stages. The compassionate and complex care needed goes beyond what can be provided in a hospital setting.
Your support of Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration via GlobalGiving means that healthcare providers are trained in the specialized, compassionate care that adolescents and their families need.
