The success story of Miguerna in Haiti

By Margaux Taton | Communication

My name is Miguerna Flore Paul Degazon. I am 43 years old and the mother of a 19-year-old son who is currently studying philosophy. Originally from Jérémie, I now live in Port-au-Prince, where I have been running a beauty salon for over 23 years.

My life has been marked by many hardships. Orphaned at the age of 9, I grew up in difficult conditions with my aunt. At 18, I decided to drop out of school to work and take control of my life. Passionate about beauty, I studied cosmetology before landing my first job at a beauty salon. After facing several professional challenges, I decided to start my own business.

Growing my salon through hard work

Over the years, I have gradually built up my beauty salon despite the obstacles. Today, my business operates every day, employs 14 people, and also sells cosmetics and soft drinks.

Thanks to my experience and determination, I have managed to build a loyal customer base and gradually improve the services offered at my salon.

Support from PMS to grow my buisness

Since joining PMS’s social microfinance program in 2021, I have received several loans that have allowed me to increase my inventory, purchase equipment, and renovate my salon.

Thanks to this support, my monthly income has risen from about 25,000 gourdes (≈ €170) to over 100,000 gourdes per month (≈ €670). I was also able to invest my savings in installing air conditioning to provide greater comfort for my clients.

Today, I own my own home, I pay for my son’s education, and I also support several people in my circle. My ambition now is to open more beauty salons to further expand my business.
