Where Hope Took Root!

By Amna Hassan Kazmi | CEO

When the devastating floods swept through Dera Allah Yar, they washed away homes, livelihoods, and the local school building. For many children, education seemed like another loss they would have to endure.

Today, standing in its place is Hamara Apna School, a resilient bamboo school that represents far more than a structure. It is a promise that every child deserves to learn, dream, and hope, no matter the circumstances. During this quarter, 49 children continued their educational journey in a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment where learning once again became part of everyday life.

Over the past three months, classrooms remained vibrant with curiosity and laughter. Daily lessons in English, Urdu, and Mathematics focused on strengthening foundational learning while encouraging children to ask questions, solve problems, and learn together. Students were grouped according to their age and learning levels, allowing teachers to provide individualized attention and ensure that every child progressed at their own pace.

For younger learners, the excitement of recognizing letters, reading their first Urdu words, and confidently counting numbers marked important milestones. Older students strengthened their reading comprehension, writing skills, mathematical understanding, and independent learning habits through guided practice, group work, and regular homework support.

Learning extended far beyond textbooks. Storytelling sessions filled the classrooms with imagination, while discussions, Islamic Studies, Surah memorization, and character-building activities nurtured kindness, confidence, responsibility, and respect. Every lesson aimed not only to educate minds but also to build resilient, compassionate young citizens.

The progress witnessed this quarter reflects the remarkable determination of both students and teachers. Regular classroom assessments showed steady improvement in literacy, numeracy, classroom participation, and self-confidence. Children who were once hesitant to read aloud now volunteer to lead activities, while others proudly complete assignments independently and support their classmates during group work.

The voices of the children themselves best capture the impact of this school:

"I enjoy learning Mathematics because my teacher explains every lesson clearly and gives us time to practice."
Bashir

"I can now read many more English words than before. Every day I learn something new."
Miran

"I like coming to school because it feels safe, happy, and everyone helps each other."
Ameera

"My teachers help me finish my classwork and homework, and now I feel much more confident."
Iqra

"Storytelling and group activities make learning exciting and help me understand my lessons better."
Nasima

"I am happy that I can continue my education here and keep learning every day."
Manail

Because this school was born out of one of Pakistan's most devastating climate disasters, environmental awareness remains woven into daily learning. Through simple yet meaningful activities, students explored the importance of keeping their surroundings clean, conserving water, planting trees, and understanding how communities can prepare for natural disasters. These conversations are helping children connect education with responsibility, empowering them to become future caretakers of both their communities and the environment.

Every day that Hamara Apna School opens its doors is a reminder that education is one of the most powerful forms of recovery. What began as a response to disaster has become a place where confidence is rebuilt, dreams are restored, and hope quietly grows stronger.

Your support has made this possible.

Together, we are not simply rebuilding a school, we are rebuilding childhoods, nurturing resilience, and creating opportunities that will shape the future of every child who walks through these bamboo classrooms.
